To Tijuana and Back

We were up early this morning, for 7:30 car pools to the nearby trolly station (see photo), so we could ride the San Diego Trolley to the border station at San Ysidro. There we walked across the border to the Migración office on the Mexican side to obtain our Tourist Cards. Then back to the U.S. side and through U.S. immigration and back to San Diego. This way we can drive straight through on Monday morning. On the way back, we stopped at the Chula Vista Costco, which has a Casa de Cambio with a good exchange rate, where we bought some Mexican pesos. Back at the campground, it was soon time for a series of meetings included a one-hour basic Spanish lesson, a procedural meeting for the drivers in our five-RV travel group, another meeting to review the road log for Monday, a big hamburger BBQ, a presentation from the Charity Committee, and finally a slide show of the sights we’ll see on our travels through Baja California.
During dinner, we had a special presentation from Mike and Terry Church, authors of several Rving books, including one on the Baja. They have just returned from two months in Baja to update their book, and enticed us with highlights of their trip – especially once-in-a-lifetime profusions of wildflowers because of the recent rains. Can’t wait to get started!
